Mlle Balsan

A pencilled inscription verso in a period hand identifies the sitter as Mlle Balsan of the Paris Opéra.  The name does not appear among the list of artistes dramatiques in Disdéri’s fifth catalogue, issued on 15 March 1861, so presumably this portrait was taken after that date.
