Mary Maria Kean

Identified on the album page as 'Mary M. Kean,' this is Mary Maria Kean, only daughter of the actors Charles Kean and Ellen Tree. She visited Silvy's studio with her father on 1 April 1862. [See page 8 of this section for his portrait taken that day.]

She was born in London on 18 September 1843. In 1876 at Kensington she married the military surgeon and medical author Cosmo Gordon Logie, son of Lieutenant-Colonel William Logie of Speymouth and his wife Elizabeth Sophia née Arnold. Of Scots descent and educated at Edinburgh University, her husband had been appointed Surgeon-Major to the Royal Horse Guards in 1862. He was later promoted Surgeon-General. Their marriage produced one son. 

Mrs Logie died, aged 55, on 4 January 1898 at 19 Earl's Avenue, Folkestone. Her estate was valued at £39,668.
