Mrs Mary A. Mainwaring

Born in late 1833 or early 1834, Mary Augusta Melvill was the daughter of Philip and Eliza Melvill of 46 Albion Street, Paddington. She was baptised at St Mary’s, Paddington Green, on 30 January 1834.
At the time of the 1851 census Philip Melvill was a ‘Military Secretary [to the] E. India Company.’
On 23 September 1856 at St John’s, Paddington, Mary Augusta Melvill married Captain Sweedland Mainwaring of the Madras Army.
‘MAINWARING-MELVILL On the 23rd inst. at St John’s Church, Paddington, by the Rev. John Finley, M.A., Chaplain to the Earl of Gainsborough, […] Captain Sweedland Mainwaring, of the Madras Army, son of the late Thomas Mainwaring, Esq., of the Bengal Civil Service, to Mary Augusta, daughter of Philip Melvill, Esq., of Clarendon-place, Hyde-park-gardens’ (Morning Post, 24 September 1856).
Mary Augusta Mainwaring died, aged 82, on 7 March 1917. Her address when she died was 5 Belmont Villas, Stoke Damerel, Devonshire. She left an estate valued at £6470.
