Volume 2, page 248, sitting number 2282.

Born at Chester in 1812, Rowland Jones Venables was the son of the Reverend Joseph Venables.

On 20 November 1837 at St Giles-in-the-Fields, Holburn, he married Harriet Corrie, daughter of Edgar Corrie, a broker. The groom gave 'Parliamentary Agent' as his profession.

When the census was taken in 1861, he described himself as a 'Landed Proprietor.' The couple were living at Oakland, Selattyn, Shropshire. Also present on the night of the census were their seven servants, including a butler, a coachman and a footboy.

Rowland Jones Venables died, aged 56, on 15 May 1868 at Oakhurst, Oswestry, Shropshire. He left an estate valued at £35,000. Probate was granted to his widow, Harriet Venables.

‘DEATH OF ROWLAND J. VENABLES, ESQ. — We regret to record the death of Mr Rowland Jones Venables, which took place at his residence, Oakhurst, on Friday last. The deceased gentleman had a severe attack of pleurisy two months ago, which disease led to others, to which he succumbed on Friday. He was the son of the late Rev. Joseph Venables incumbent of Chorlton. His death will cause a blank not easily filled up. He was captain of the Fifteenth Shropshire (Oswestry) Rifle Corps, and a Lieutenant in the Shropshire Yeomanry. He was a most excellent County Magistrate; and acted for Salop and Denbigh; and an energetic director of the Great Western Railway. He formerly belonged to the firm of Pritt, Sherwood, and Venables, the eminent railway solicitors, Great George Street, London. […] He inherited a large fortune from his maternal uncle, Mr Rowland of Cefn, and also from the late Miss Rowland, of Bryn, his aunt. He married, in 1837, Miss Harriet Corrie, daughter of Edgar Corrie, Esq., of Bedford Square, London, by whom he leaves no issue. His loss will be deeply felt by the poor of the parish of Selattyn, to whom he was a great friend’ (Shrewsbury Chronicle, 22 May 1868).
