[The sitter is identified as ‘Mrs Colin S. Caird’ in the Silvy daybooks. This is the wife of the ship owner and merchant Colin Stewart Caird, who is the preceding entry in the daybooks.]

Born on 4 August 1824 at Greenock in Renfrewshire, Jane Hunter Paterson was the daughter of Samuel Paterson and Jane née Blain. 

On 13 January 1859 at Greenock she married shipowner Colin Stewart Caird. 

Their marriage does not appear to have produced any children. 

Mrs Jane Hunter Paterson Caird died, aged 73, on 15 June 1898 at Dungourney, Greenock.
