Born on 28 February 1893 at Lathrop in Pennsylvania, Lena Mae Arnst was the daughter of Lester Arnst and his wife Emma née Ball, both born in Pennsylvania. She died, aged 25, on 27 December 1918 of 'double pneumonia,' with 'influenza' listed on her death certificate as a secondary, contributory cause. She was buried at Sunnyside on 30 December 1918. 

A wetstamp verso identifies the photographer as E.D. Murdoch of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania,

The print measures 6.3” by 8.2” (15.9 cm by 20.8 cm) and is mounted on a larger piece of grey Bristol board.
