Baby under a net canopy I
Anonymous, North American
silver print
A portrait of baby under a white net canopy, surrounded by wreaths and floral tributes. Some mourners created a temporary space in the family home in which to display the body of their loved one. Known as a 'chapelle blanche' [English: white chapel], these semi-sacred structures usually involved large quantities of white net or lace.
Photographer and location unidentified but almost certainly North American.
The print measures 8.3” by 6.3” (21.2 cm by 16 cm) and is mounted on a slightly sheet of buff-coloured Bristol board.
