Monsieur P. West
21 July 1862
Volume 8, page 288, sitting number 10,773.
[The Silvy daybooks identify the sitter as 'Mons. P. West'. Although the French form of address is usual in the first volume of the Silvy daybooks, its use in 1862 is perhaps significant. Despite his very British surname, the sitter's appearance certainly suggests that he might be Continental. The telescope appears in no other portrait taken by Silvy so presumably Monsieur West brought it with him to the studio especially for this portrait.]
