Miss Emily Morgell
(1838-1924)

Born in 1838 at Chilbolton in Hampshire, Emily Hallward Morgell was the youngest daughter of Reverend Crosbie Morgell, later the Rector of East Knoyle in Wiltshire, and his wife Sarah. 

She was baptised at Chilbolton on 30 December 1838. 

On 31 December 1863 at the parish church in East Knoyle she married George Goodwin Buckston, a solicitor, the son of Reverend Henry Thomas Buckston. 

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at 4 Queensborough Terrace in Paddington. The household included three live-in servants, all female. 

George Goodwin Buckston, ‘late of No. 4, Queensborough-terrace, Paddington, and of No. 8, Whitehall-place’ died on 6 June 1877 (Preston Pilot, 15 August 1877). He left an estate valued at £25,000. 

On 18 November 1880 at St George’s, Hanover Square, his widow married Sir Edward Alan Holdich K.C.B.,  of 45 Dover Street, a General in the Army. 

In 1901 the couple were living at 18 Onslow Square in South Kensington; the household included three live-in servants, all female. 

In 1911 Lady Emily Holdich was still at the same address, now a widow living with three female servants. 

She died on 29 March 1924 at 30 Porchester Square, Bayswater, leaving an estate valued at £15,728.
