Born in Marylebone on 2 July 1811, Alfred Bourne was the son of James Bourne and his wife Margaret Priscilla Bourne. He was baptised at St George’s Hanover Square on 23 August 1811.
He appears on the 1861 census, a ‘General Merchant’ living at 11 Ladbroke Terrace with his wife Sophie, their four children, five servants and several visitors.
He was still at the same address in 1871, now with six children, a governess and four servants, all female.
In 1901, aged 89 and a widower, he was living at 12 Denmark Terrace in Brighton with three unmarried adult daughters and three servants.
Alfred Bourne died, aged 94, at 12 Denmark Terrace in Brighton on 17 May 1906, leaving an estate valued at £13,389. Probate was granted to his daughters Sophia Katherine Bourne and Emily Marion Bourne.
