Mrs Mary Bateman-Hanbury

Born on 18 January 1837, Mary Ward Davenport was the daughter of John Davenport and his wife Charlotte née Coltman.

On 2 February 1858 she married the Reverend and Honourable Arthur Allen Bateman-Hanbury, son of William Bateman-Hanbury, 1st Baron Bateman of Shobdon. Her husband had been appointed the Rector of Shobdon in 1853, a living he held until his death in 1919. 

The couple appear on the 1861 census living at the Rectory in Shobdon with their first child Edith, aged 10 months, and six servants, including a butler and a groom.

The Honourable Mrs Mary Ward Bateman-Hanbury died, aged 58, at Shobdon Rectory on 31 December 1895.
