Henry Robert Eyre

Born in Devonport in 1842, Henry Robert Eyre was the son of General Henry Eyre.

He appears on the 1861 census, aged 18, a Lieutenant with his regiment, stationed at Wellington Barracks in Westminster.

On 29 April 1879, at Trinity Church in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, he married the Honourable Eva Lucy Mary Byron, daughter of the Honourable Frederick Byron and granddaughter of Admiral George Anson Byron, 7th Baron Byron of Rochdale.

The couple appear on the 1881 census living at Winkton House in Christchurch, Hampshire, with their young son Colin and seven servants. 

After the death of his first wife on 8 February 1895, he married secondly on 7 April 1900 at St George's, Hanover Square, Lady Alice Mary Harris, daughter of Admiral the Honourable Sir Edward Harris, KCB, second son of the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury. 

Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Robert Eyre ‘of Midddleton Tyas Yorkshire, of Dundhu Perthshire N.B. and of 10 Berkeley-square Middlesex, retired colonel in H.M. army’ died at ‘The Grove’ in Grove Road, Bournemouth, on 12 March 1904, leaving an estate valued at £63,967.

‘We regret to announce the death at Bournemouth, on the 12th inst., of Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Robert Eyre, son of General Henry Eyre, of Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire. Colonel Eyre was born in 1842, and served in the Coldstream Guards as captain and lieutenant-colonel from 1872 to 1885. He married, in 1879, the Hon. Eve Lacy [sic], sister of the ninth Lord Byron, who died in 1895, and in 1900 married Lady Alice, sister of the fourth Earl of Malmesbury’ (Morning Post, 17 March 1904).
