Miss McKerrell
(1848-1934)

[The sitter is identified on the album page.]

This is probably the eldest of the four daughters of Robert McKerrell of Clan McKerrell, who died on 25 October 1875, leaving an estate valued at £25,000. Several newspaper reports mention him in connection with Scott & Co of Mauritius. He was also a Director of the Colonial Life Assurance Company.

His eldest daughter was Henrietta Eliza Cathcart McKerrell, born in London on 28 July 1848. The family lived at 45 Inverness Terrace in Paddington, which is two streets away from Silvy's studio on Porchester Terrace.

On 8 December 1874 she married Captain Henry Charles Adolphus Frederick William Aldenberg Bentinck of the Coldstream Guards, 5th Graf Bentinck, son of Lieutenant-General Charles Anthony Ferdinand Bentinck4th Graf Bentinck and Caroline Mechtild Emma Charlotte Christine Luise, Gräfin zu Waldeck und Pyrmont. Their marriage produced seven children.

She appears on the 1901 census living at 53 Green Street in Mayfair with her husband, four of her children and six servants.

Countess Bentinck died, aged 85, on 10 February 1934 at her residence in Green Street, Mayfair. She left an estate valued at £26,075.
