T.B.T. Hildyard and his siblings

[Identified as ‘T.B.T. Hildyard (Group of 4)’ in the Silvy daybooks, these are the four children of Thomas Thoroton Hildyard.]

The young man standing at the back on the left is the eldest of the four, Thomas Blackborne Thoroton Hildyard (1843-1928). He married Eleanor Herbert in 1871 at St Peter’s in Pimlico. He died on 19 October 1928 at Flintham Hall in Nottinghamshire, leaving an estate valued at £38,337.

The boy seated on the left is Robert Charles Thoroton Hildyard (1844 -1885). He married Anna (‘Annie’) Elizabeth Hildyard in 1871 and died on 25 January 1885 at 2 Woolwich Common, leaving an estate valued at £4110. According to the 1881 census, he was an 'Engineers Inspector Local Government,' which the enumerator has classified as a 'Civil Servant.'

The other boy is Henry John Thoroton Hildyard (1846-1916). On 20 May 1871 he married Annette Prevost. He enjoyed a long and illustrious career in the Army. General Sir Henry John Thoroton Hildyard GCB of 20 Eccleston Square in Pimlico died on 25 July 1916 at Woburn Sands in Bedfordshire. His estate was valued at £3672.

The girl is Edith Mary Thoroton Hildyard (1850-1928). In 1895 she married Edward Bromley. Her husband, who was twenty years her senior, was a barrister-at-law. The couple appear on the 1901 census living at 12 Eccleston Square in Pimlico. The household included two nurses and five servants. Mrs Bromley died on 1 July 1928 at Aspley Heath House, Woburn Sands. Her estate was valued at £38,414.
