Rosia Mary Hatton

Born at Brighton on 19 March 1830, Rosia Mary de Bathe was the only daughter of Sir William Plunkett de Bathe, 3rd Baronet of Knightstown in the county of Meath. She was baptised on 9 June 1830 at St Nicholas in Brighton.

On 6 November 1850 she married Captain Villiers La Touche Hatton of the Grenadier Guards, only son of Admiral Villiers Francis Hatton, at St George’s, Hanover Square. Their marriage produced two sons and two daughters.

In 1871 the couple were living at Willesley Hall in Derbyshire. Their two daughters were present on the night of the census, as well as a governess and twelve servants, including a butler and two footmen.

Mrs Hatton died, aged 65, on 21 May 1895 at 25 Stanhope Gardens, Kensington. She left an estate valued at £24,042. She was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery, where her tomb still stands today.
