Sir George Howland Beaumont
(1828-1882)
Volume 1, page 132, sitting number 730.
The Silvy daybooks and a pencilled inscription verso in a period hand both identify the sitter as the ‘Marquess of Beaumont.' This is not, however, the Marquess of Bowmont [the courtesy title held by the eldest son of the Duke of Roxburghe], who appears elsewhere in the Silvy daybooks.
The Silvy database suggests that this might be Sir George Howland Beaumont (1828-1882), who succeeded his father in 1845, becoming 9th Baronet Beaumont of Stoughton Grange, Co. Leicester.
