Madame Marianne Zanzi
6 July 1863
Volume 10, page 337, sitting number 13,718.
Identified in the Silvy daybooks as 'Madame Zanzi,' this is Mrs Marianne Zanzi, wife of Alexander Zanzi, an Italian silk merchant, and mother of Alexandrina. The family appear on the 1861 census, living at 32 Brompton Crescent, Knightsbridge, London. At the time of the census, Madame Zanzi, who was born in London, gave her age as 36. She was therefore born in or about 1825.
In 1870 Alexander Zanzi is listed as an Associate of the British Archaeological Association. At this time, he was still living at 32 Brompton Crescent. A few years later, The Times (6 January 1876) briefly mentioned that '[i]n consequence of the death of their senior, Mr Alexander Zanzi, the house of Zanzi and Co. has ceased to exist, but the business will be carried on by their successors, Messrs C. Longhi and co., under that title.'
