Edward E. Antrobus
(1806-1886)
1 August 1861

Volume 4, page 315, sitting number 5329.

Identified in the Silvy daybooks as 'Edward E. Antrobus,' this is Edward Edmund Antrobus (more usually Edmund Edward Antrobus), whose father was a director of Coutts Bank.

In 1830 he married Frances Carlisle. A son named Edmund William was born in 1832 but must have subsequently died, since another son was also baptised Edmund in 1834. It appears that he also died. The 1851 census shows three daughters living with Edmund and Frances in Chelsea: Frances (20), Helena (17) and Emma (15). Helena Louisa Antrobus died, aged 48, on 22 January 1882 at 14 Kensington Palace Gardens.

When his first son was baptised in 1832, Edmund Edward Antrobus gave as his profession 'Tea Dealer.' At the time of the 1871 census, he described himself as 'Magistrate [and] Tea Merchant.'

Edmund Edward Antrobus died, aged 80,  on 3 May 1886 at 14 Kensington Palace Gardens, leaving an estate valued at £28,000 to his two daughters, Mrs Frances Anne Cowell and Miss Emma Maria Antrobus.
