Duquesa de Fernán Núñez
(1829-1921)
and her children
Maria del Pilar Osorio y Gutierrez de los Rios was born in Madrid on 12 October 1829, the daughter of Felipe Osorio y de La Cueva (1795-1859) and Maria Francisca de Asís Gutierrez de los Rios y Vicente de Solis (1801-1836). Her mother held the title Duquesa de Fernán Núñez in her own right. When she died in 1836, her daughter became the 3rd Duchess of Fernán Núñez.
On 4 October 1852 in Madrid she married Manuel Falcó y d'Adda (1828-1892), Marqués de Almonacid de los Oteros. Between them, the couple were the largest landowners in Spain. Their marriage produced four children: María Del Rosario Falcó y Osorio (1854-1904); Manuel Falcó y Osorio (1856-1927), later the 4th Duke of Fernán Núñez; Isabel Falcó Osorio (1857-1875), who died in Malaga, aged only 17; and Felipe Falcó y Osorio (1859-1931), later Duque de Montellano.
The Duke served his country as the Spanish ambassador to France.
The Duchess of Fernán Núñez died, aged 91, on 1 September 1921 at the Château de Dave, the family's residence near Namur in Belgium.
