Eugène Coralli
in Les amours de Diane

A portrait of the dancer, mime artist and stage-manager Eugène Coralli, son of the great dancer and choreographer Jean Coralli.

He is seen here in Prince Joseph Poniatowski's Pierre de Médicis, first performed at the Académie Impériale de Musique on 9 March 1860, in which he danced the role of 'a faun' in the second act ballet Les amours de Diane, choreographed by Petipa.

From an album assembled by Doctor Martin Batt Tanner of Summerlands, Exeter, Devon. An inked inscription on the album’s frontispiece reads ‘Photographs of Celebrities / in 1862 / collected by me whilst residing at the / Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.’

Pasted to the reverse of the mount is the small paper label of the stockist where the carte was originally purchased, Lesage of Dublin.
