An inked inscription verso in a period hand reads 'Baby Sister / Margaret / Born 1908, Buried 1909 / in St Mary's Cemetery / Homestead, PA.'
This is probably Margaret Jane Johnston, who was born in Homestead on 31 August 1908 and died in Homestead on 6 September 1909. The cause of death was enterocolitis. Her father was John R. Johnston and her mother was Janet née Hargrave. Margaret was buried in Homestead on 8 September 1908. The undertakers were Gillen & Coulter of Homestead.
John Robert Johnston was born in Ireland on 2 March 1877. When he married Janet Hargrave on 17 April 1902, he gave his profession as 'Lamp maker.' When Margaret's birth was registered in 1908, he gave 'Clerk at Steel Works' as his profession. Margaret was his third child and the family were living at 221, 16th Avenue, Homestead.
