Mrs Arat, 1917
Anonymous, North American
silver print
A pencilled inscripiton verso in a period hand identifies the woman as 'Mrs Arat' and gives the date, 1917. With a strong lens, it's also possible to read some of the information engraved on the silver plaque inside the coffin lid, which reveals that she was born in 1866 and confirms that she died in 1917. Unfortunately, it's not quite possible to read her full name.
Photographer and location unidentified.
The print measures 6.6" by 8.4" (16.7 cm by 21.4 cm) and is mounted on large piece of pale-grey Bristol board with a dark grey decorative border around the photograph.
