Born at Brasted near Sevenoaks in Kent in 1846, William Lewis Shrubsole was the son of Thomas Shrubsole, a miller. He was already a photographer when he married Annie Mitchell, a carpenter's daughter, on 23 September 1874 at All Saints, Paddington. He was still a photographer when the 1911 census was taken. He died in Norwich, aged 70, in 1917.
