From at least as early as 1874 E.D. Spencer of Penn House was also a pianoforte maker. An advertisement in the South London Chronicle (25 April 1874) for Spencer & Co describes the firm as 'Artists and Photographers' and 'Pianoforte Makers and Music Sellers.'
