Miss Scott
17 June 1861
Volume 4, page 94, sitting number 4448.
Identified as ‘Miss Scott’ in the Silvy daybooks, the sitter was identified as ‘Hon. Mrs. H.B. Bernard’ on the album page.
If the album inscription is to be believed, then this is the wife of the Honourable Henry Boyle Bernard, son of the 2nd Earl of Bandon and for many years the MP for Bandon. However, her maiden name was not Scott. His wife, whom he married in 1848, was 'Mathilda Sophia, daughter of Major General Turner, in command of the troops in sourthern distict of Ireland' (Bell's Weekly Messanger, 29 January 1848). Nor can this be a second wife, since Mrs Bernard did not die until 1892, three years before her husband.
