Volume 5, page 1, sitting number 5506.

Identified in the Silvy daybooks only as 'Smith Barry, Esq.,' this is probably Arthur Hugh Smith-Barry, son of James Hugh Smith-Barry and Elizabeth née Jacson. His mother and his two younger sisters also visited Silvy's studio.

Born on 17 January 1843 at Leamington in Warwickshire, he was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He served as the Member of Parliament for County Cork between 1867 and 1874. He again sat in Parliament, this time as the representative for South Huntingdonshire, from 1886 to 1900. On 18 July 1902 he was created 1st Baron Barrymore of Barrymore, co. Cork. On his death, the title became extinct.

He married, firstly, on 17 August 1868 at St Brides in Glamorgan, Lady Mary Frances Wyndham-Quin, daughter of Edwin Richard Wyndham-Quin, 3rd Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl. He married, secondly, on 28 February 1889 at St Paul's Church in Knightsbridge, Elizabeth Post, widow of Arthur Post and daughter of General James Samuel Wadsworth of Genesco, New York. His first marriage produced a son and daughter; his second marriage produced a second daughter.

Lord Barrymore of Marbury Hall in Cheshire and of Foth Island in County Cork died at his London residence, 20 Hill Street in Mayfair, on 22 February 1925 at the age of 82. His estate was valued at £492,277.

According to his obituary in The Scotsman (23 February 1925), 'His chief recreatiion was yachting, and he was admiral of the Royal Cork Yacht Club.'
