Mrs Pratt Barlow
(1810-1884)
10 October 1861

Volume 5, page 130, sitting number 6014.

[Identified as 'Mrs Pratt Barlow' in the Silvy daybooks, this is possibly Mary Anne Pratt Barlow, wife of James Pratt Barlow.]

Born Mary Anne Alexander in Calcutta in or about 1810, she was the daughter of Joseph Josias Du Pre Alexander and his wife Mary Alexander née Bracken. On 4 April 1837 she married James Pratt Barlow, who on various censuses gave his profession as 'Proctor.' He was attached to Doctors' Commons, also called the College of Civilians, a society of lawyers practising civil law in London. The duties of the college's thirty-four proctors were analogous to those of solicitors.

The couple appear on the 1861 census living in Kensington with their four children.

James Pratt Barlow died on 21 August 1871. Mrs Pratt Barlow died at 123 Sloane Street in London on 4 October 1884. She left an estate valued at £6055.
