Misses Eugenia and Adeline Chapman
(1845-1886 and 1848-1931)
6 April 1861

Volume 3, page 52, sitting number 2908.

Eugenia Susannah Chapman and Adeline Mary Chapman were the daughters of the banker David Barclay Chapman of Downshire House, Roehampton.

Eugenia was born in or about 1845. She married, firstly, on 20 April 1865, George Henry Fitzroy, second son of Sir Charles Augustus FitzRoy and Lady Mary Lennox. Her husband was a diplomat; he died, aged only 41, on 8 July 1868 'at Nagasaki, Japan, where he had gone from Shanghai for recovery of his health' (Bury and Norwich Post, 25 August 1868). She married, secondly, on 25 October 1879, Colonel Edward St Aubyn, son of Sir Edward St Aubyn, 1st Bt. and Emma Knollys. She died on 12 March 1886.

'It is with deep regret that we record the death of Mrs St Aubyn, wife of Mr Edward St Aubyn, steward of the Manor of Devonport, and younger brother of Sir John St Aubyn, Bart., M.P., which took place at the Manor Lodge about four o'clock on Friday morning. Mrs St Aubyn had been in delicate health for some time, and had been away for a change of air. This, however, did not completely restore her, and the lamentable death of her two daughters not three months since greatly affected her. Mrs St Aubyn never left her bed after the death of Miss Ella Fitz Roy on the 11th of January, and has been under the constant attention of Dr Clay and Mr Thom. Her untimely demise at the age of 41 will be universally regretted and the deepest sympathy is expressed on all hands for Mr Edward St Aubyn, who is thus a widower for the second time, and has sustained three lamentable losses within three months' (Cornish Telegraph, 18 March 1886).

Adeline was born in 1847. She married, firstly, on 23 April 1867, the Conservative politician Arthur Edward Guest, fifth son of the Welsh industrialist and entrepreneur Sir Josiah John Guest1st Bt. and Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Bertie. She married, secondly, on 30 December 1899 at St Margaret's Westminster, barrister-at-law and magistrate Cecil Maurice Chapman, son of Henry Chapman. She died, aged 83, on 20 January 1931.
