Miss S. C. Thursby
(1840-1925)
10 July 1862

Volume 8, page 215, sitting number 10478.

Almost certainly Sophia Charlotte Thursby, born at Ormerod, Lancashire, on 18 July 1840, the daughter of the Reverend William Thursby (1795-1883) and Eleanor Mary née Hargreaves (1803-1883).

The 1861 census shows her living with her parents at Ormerod House, Ormerod, Lancashire.

She died on 10 June 1925 at Montpelier Hall, her residence in Brighton. She left an estate valued at £85,783. Her enormous fortune came from the great colliery concern in Burnley that had passed from her grandfather Colonel Hargreaves to her parents in 1834, increasing immensely in value over the next fifty years.
