Mrs Augusta Williams
(1836-1870)
4 April 1862

Volume 6. page 166, sitting number 7533.

Identified in the Silvy daybooks as Mrs Augusta Williams, this is probably the wife of John Williams, a merchant in 'China trade.' The couple appear on the 1861 census living at 14 Gloucester Crescent North, Paddington, London. At the time of the census, Mr Williams was 38 and his wife was 25.

Baptised on 12 February 1836 in Liverpool, Augusta Elizabeth Fischer was the daughter of merchant Maximilian Fischer and his wife Elizabeth.

On 5 April 1853 she married John Williams 'at the British Consulate and again at the church at Canton.' According to the announcement of the marriage in the Morning Advertiser (1 June 1853), she was the 'second daughter of Maximilian Fischer, Esq., of the same place.'

Mrs Williams died, aged 34, on 7 March 1870 at 5 Elvaston Place, South Kensington.
