Count Vitzthum von Eckstädt
(1819-1895)
14 March 1861

Volume 2, page 309, sitting number 2525.

Identified in the Silvy daybooks as 'The Count Vitzthum / Ministre de Saxe,' the sitter is also identified by an inked inscription verso in a fine period hand as 'Count Witzthum [sic], Saxon minister.'

The Foreign Office List for 1861 gives the full name and title of the Saxon Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary as Count Charles Vitzthum d'Eckstaedt, and gives 14 February 1857 as the date of presentation of his letters of credence.

The National Portrait Gallery gives his name as Count Carl Vitzthum von Eckstädt
