[The Silvy daybooks identify the sitter simply as the 'Child of Mrs MacGeorge.' According to the website of the National Portrait Gallery, this is Ponsonby James MacGeorge.]
Born on 2 December 1859, the youngest son of Lieutentant-Colonel William MacGeorge of the Bengal Army, he was baptised on 3 April 1860 at St James's, Paddington.
Ponsonby James MacGeorge died, aged 6, on 17 October 1866, at 21 Sumner Place, London (Belfast Newsletter, 22 October 1866).
