Mrs Ward Chapman's children
17 April 1861

[Identified in the Silvy daybooks as ‘Mrs Ward Chapman’s children,’ these are probably two of the children of the banker David Ward Chapman, at one time a dealer at Overend, Gurney and Co.]

David Ward Chapman and his family appear on the 1861 census, living at 35 Princes Gate in Knightsbridge. He was 33 and his wife Charlotte was 32. Their children were Charlotte (8), Caroline Ella (6), David (5), Perceval (4), Flora (2) and Frederick (1). Also present on the night of the census were sixteen live-in servants, including a butler, an under-butler, a footman and a page.

Given the date of this sitting, which was only nine days after the census, the children seen here are probably Perceval and Flora.
