Marie-Thérèse Fechter was the daughter of the Anglo-French actor Charles Albert Fechter and his wife, the actress Eléonore Rabut.
According to the Dictionary of National Biography (1921-22), Charles Fechter 'married, 29 Nov. 1847, Mlle Rolbert, a pensionnaire of the Comédie Française, by whom he had a son, Paul, and a daughter Marie, who became an operatic singer.'
One online source places her birth in Paris on 28 February 1854. According to the same source, she made her operatic debut in Paris on 14 March 1877 as the eponymous heroine of Mignon by Ambrose Thomas.
