Born on 7 October 1831, William George Muriel was the only son of William and Catherine Muriel of Wickham Market in Suffolk. His father was an officer in the Royal Navy.
In 1859 he married Susanna Lynn, daughter of Edward Lynn of Runcorn in Lancashire. The marriage produced three children.
At the time of the 1861 census, William George Muriel was a 'Member of the Royal College of Surgeons.'
On 18 June 1861 the Edinburgh Review reported that William George Muriel, gentleman, had become an Ensign in the 5th Suffolk Rifle Volunteer Corps.
According to the abstract of his will, 'William George Muriel, late of St Stephen's Square, Bayswater [died, aged 39, on] 22 March 1870 at Millmount in the Island of Guernsey.' He left an estate valued at £5000.
After the death of her first husband in 1870, on 3 April 1872 Susan married Manchester silk manufacturer Richard Hampson Joynson of Bowden in the county of Chester. This marriage produced one daughter.
Mrs Susan Joynson died in 1896, aged 60, and was buried on 10 June 1896 at Bowden in Cheshire.
