Lady Caroline Pratt
(1839-1929)

Lady Caroline Elizabeth Pratt was a daughter of George Pratt, the 2nd Marquess Camden.

At the time of her birth her father held the courtesy title Earl of Brecknock, but the following year, 1840, he succeeded his father and became 2nd Marquess Camden.

Lady Caroline Pratt, who never married, died on 10 November 1929 at the age of 90. Her death took place at her London residence, 34 Alexander Court, Queen's Gate, South Kensington. She left an estate valued at £1575.

On 14 November, The Times reported that 'The funeral of Lady Caroline Pratt took place at Seal Church near Sevenoaks yesterday. The Rev. H. Jones Davies (the vicar) and the Rev. Ronald Pratt (nephew) officiated. The chief mourners were the Marquess and Marchioness of Camden, Sir George Murray, Mrs. W. H. Hoare, Miss Isobel Murray, Mrs Kitchin, and Mr Cecil Stewart.'

The Kent & Sussex Courier (15 November 1929) gave a little more information about her life. 'With the death of Lady Caroline Pratt, which occurred on Sunday in her 91st year, there is now but one surviving daughter of the second Lord Camden's family of eight. For many years Lady Caroline, who was the second eldest of the eight sisters, lived at the "Grove," Seal (Sevenoaks), leaving there in 1924, and going to reside at Alexander Court, Queen's-gate, London. [...] During the many years she lived in the village of Seal she took a great interest in parish affairs and was enthusiastic in her work for the Parish Church, being for a long time Secretary for the Diocesan Quota.' The article closes with details of her funeral, listing the hymns at the service, the mourners who attended and the names of the friends and family who sent wreaths.
