Lady Milliken Napier
(1822-1902)
24 June 1861

Volume 7, page 125, sitting number 4570.

On 4 April 1850 Anne Salisbury Meliora, daughter of John Ladavese Adlercron, married Robert John Milliken-Napier, 9th Baronet Napier of Milliken, Co. Renfrewshire.

She and her husband appear on the 1861 census, living at Milliken House in Renfrewshire with their six children and a household of servants. At the time of the census, Lady Napier was 38 years old, so she was born in or about 1823. She gave Ireland as her place of birth.

She died on 5 January 1902 at Penicuik House in Midlothian, leaving an estate valued at £191.

'Lady Anne Salisbury Mary Melioria Adlercron, widow of Sir Robert John Milliken-Napier, ninth Baronet of that Ilk, died at Penicuik on Sunday evening after a brief illness. Her Ladyship, who was a daughter of John Ladavese Adlercron of Moyglare, County Meath, was born in December 1822, and was married in 1850 to Sir R. J. Napier of Napier, who predeceased her in 1884. She is survived by her son Sir Archibald Napier, Bart., and by her daughters, Lady Hay of Haystoun and Lady Clerk of Penicuik. A son, Major Napier, was severely wounded at the battle of Atbara, and subsequently died, whilst another, Mr Wm. Napier, died a few months ago in the East Indies, whither he had gone to take charge of estates belonging to the family' (Dalkeith Advertiser, 9 January 1902, several spelling mistakes corrected).
