Mrs Humberston
(1807-1876)

Elizabeth Henrietta Hughes was born in or about 1807 at Bache Hall near Chester. She was the third daughter of Hugh Robert Hughes.

On 29 October 1840 at Trinity Church in Chester she married Philip Stapleton Humberston of The Friars, Chester.  

Philip Humberston was elected the Member of Parliament (Conservaite) for the City of Chester at the 1859 general election. He held the seat until 1865, when he did not seek re-election. 

The couple appear on the 1871 census living at Glan-y-wern Hall in  Llandyrnog, Denbighshire. Philip Humberston described himself as ‘formerly [a] solicitor [in] Chester.’ He was also a ‘magistrate for [the] counties of Denbigh and Chester’ and a Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Administrative Battalion of the Cheshire Rifle Volunteers. 

Mrs Humberston died, aged 69, on 8 August 1876.
