Lady Jane Hildyard
(1792-1878)

Born in 1792 at Tewin in Hertfordshire, Lady Jane Townsend was the youngest daughter of the Rt. Hon. Lord John Townsend and his wife Georgina Ann née Poyntz. 

On 31 December 1855 her younger brother John succeeded as the 4th Marquess Townsend of Raynham (the previous Marquess was his cousin) and Jane was granted the rank of a marquess’s daughter. 

On 6 November 1824 at St George’s, Hanover Square, she married John Hildyard of Lincoln’s Inn, Barrister-at-Law (Morning Post, 8 November 1824)

Lady Jane Hildyard died on 7 March 1878.  She left an estate valued at £16,000. 

‘Lady Jane Hildyard, on the 7th inst., at Hampton Court Palace, where she had occupied apartments for many years. She was the last surviving sister of John, fourth Marquis Townsend, and married, in 1824, Mr John Hildyard, but was left a widow in 1855’ (Illustrated London News, 16 March 1878).
